Leading the Way: Helping Others Grow While You Grow as Well!

Leading the Way: Helping Others Grow While You Grow as Well! -Tony Raimondo

Over the years, I’ve learned that leading a team — whether it’s a small department or a large operation — isn’t just about hitting numbers or managing day-to-day tasks. It’s about people. It’s about recognizing potential, inspiring confidence, and helping others step into their strengths.

When I worked in retail, and later in a utility company, I had the privilege of managing different teams. Each experience taught me something valuable about leadership: if you want your team to succeed, you have to create opportunities for them to grow.

One thing I always tried to do was rotate people into different roles. If someone in one area was out, I’d have someone else step in — not just to cover, but to learn. It gave everyone a better understanding of the operation as a whole and built flexibility across the team. It also helped people see that they were trusted and capable of more than they thought.

And honestly, I did it for another reason too — I always wanted to make sure that when I moved on or got promoted, there were at least one or two people ready to step right up. That’s not just good management; it’s good leadership. You shouldn’t be irreplaceable — you should be the person who prepares others to shine when it’s their turn.

I’ve found that people thrive when they see room to grow. They become more engaged, more creative, and more confident. And when everyone’s pulling in the same direction, the operation runs smoother, morale is higher, and success feels shared — not top-down.

Leadership, to me, has always been about setting the example. You can’t expect honesty, teamwork, and dedication from your team if you don’t show it yourself.
So, I’ve always tried to lead with open communication, encouragement, and integrity — because people notice how you act when things are tough, not just when they’re easy.

At the end of the day, I really believe this:
“You’re only as good as the people around you when you’re leading the way.
If you take the time to invest in others — to teach, to trust, and to lift them up — you don’t just build stronger teams. You build a lasting culture of success, one that continues long after you’ve moved on to your next challenge.”
